Open Positions:

Teacher Assistant (Special Education) 

A Full-time position is available.  Work in the classroom with our students, assisting the Teacher in classroom and other activities.  Job requirements include creativity and flexibility and a willingness to work with different groups of people, as needed.  Experience with Special Education is desired, as well as a knowledge of technology (such as communication devices) preferred.  Must be able to lift a minimum of 20 pounds. High School diploma required.

Social Worker – We are seeking an experienced MSW to provide support services to students with complex, multiple disabilities and their families.  The Social Worker also supports the coordination of each student’s Individual Education Program (IEP) and Post-21 Transition Planning.

The ideal candidate will possess the following:

  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience working with individuals with complex disabilities
  • Familiarity with IDEA and the Special Education Process
  • Experience with Post-21 Transition Planning for individuals with complex needs
  • History of working on interdisciplinary teams, particularly in an education or health care setting,

PA Licensed Social Worker and MSW required.   This position is full time, year-round, working with the senior MSW and beginning as soon as the application and hiring processes, including background checks, can be completed.

Recreation Aide (Part-time/20 hours per week) –

We have a need for a part-time Recreation Aide. Duties will include working with children and young adults with disabilities in after school, evening and weekend recreation activities.  Responsibilities will include assisting Recreation Therapists and Theatre Teaching Artists in activities, and planning and supervising leisure activities.

Should have experience working with children and/or adults with disabilities in leisure and recreational activities.  Must be 21 yrs old and have a valid driver’s license. Background checks will be required

Personal Care Assistant- Monday through Friday Day Shift/One Weekend a  month

Duties include promoting and providing the highest quality physical and emotional care to HMS students, providing assistance to students by performing and facilitating tasks the students cannot do for themselves, while encouraging independence when appropriate. PCAs participate in classroom settings and during recreational activities.

Must have a High School Diploma or equivalent. Must be at least 21 yrs old in accordance with Department of Public Welfare which regulates our residence. Experience working with children is a plus.

Maintenance/Janitorial (Full-time; Monday and Tuesday work 7am to 3pm; Wed to Friday work 3pm to 11pm)   We currently have a need for a full-time Maintenance/Janitorial person.  Duties include (but are not limited to) changing bulbs, wiring, changing outlets, performing simple carpentry functions, using mechanical devices.  Also responsible for ground maintenance and janitorial duties throughout the school including, offices, hallways, therapy rooms, kitchen and for recycling.   Must be able to lift and carry items weighing 50 pounds, and have at least 2 years similar experience.  This position is considered essential and the incumbent is expected to work during school closings throughout the year.

Wheelchair Mechanic/Part-time:  We currently have need for an in-house mechanic who can make repairs to power and manual wheelchairs and other equipment for our students.

Experience with wheelchair repair experience is preferred but not necessary.  But must have experience using hand and power tools, as well as soldering.  Enjoy working with our friendly, professional staff.  Since we are a school, you will enjoy summers off and some extended breaks during the school year.
