School Government

HMS has a Student Government. Every fall, campaign posters adorn school walls to promote individual candidates for President, Vice President, Treasurer, Secretary and Sheriff. The school-wide election is followed by an Inaugural Ball. Student Government meets monthly, with assistance from a classroom teacher/advisor.

Student Government organizes special activities such as dances. They hold two bake sales a year and other fundraisers, using the money raised toward their activities. They also work on the school newspaper.

Past presidents have addressed student concerns with the school’s administration such as residents’ request to watch TV in their bedrooms rather than in the Assembly Room or that special recreation activities be scheduled daily at 3:15 for those students who don’t have therapy sessions at that hour.
