An important message from HMS School regarding recent changes to the Federal Department of Education. We will continue to share updates as we receive them.

Dear HMS Community,

In light of the reductions and uncertainty within the Federal Department of Education, I want to acknowledge that there may be fear, worries, and questions about what this could mean for HMS. I also want you to know that we are closely monitoring the situation and engaging in conversations on this topic with partners at the Pennsylvania Department of Education, other Approved Private Schools and elected officials.

What we know right now is that early drafts of the Pennsylvania State Budget for July 1, 2025 – June 30, 2026, actually reflect a potential increase in funding to Special Education and, even more specifically, to Approved Private Schools like HMS. While it is only March, and neither the Federal or State budgets are approved yet, we remain hopeful that this expected increase comes to fruition.

As we look further into the future, there is not yet any definitive information being shared with schools about how state special education budgets will or will not be impacted by the Federal Department’s restructuring. We will continue to stay connected to our partners and our peers over the months ahead and communicate with you if and when anything changes.

Thank you for your partnership and support,

Theresa Newhard, President, HMS School for Children with Cerebral Palsy
