The Philadelphia Flyers PowerPlay and Gritty come to HMS!

Yesterday was day two of our summer camp and what better way to celebrate than with the Philadelphia Flyers PowerPlay Team?

Students in powerchairs play with adapted hockey sticks.

The Philadelphia Flyers Powerplay, a power wheelchair floor hockey team based in Philadelphia, showed campers how they play hockey in power wheelchairs using specialized sticks and pucks, and gave a demonstration on how to play defense, offense, and goalie.

Campers even got a chance to get in on the action and shoot against special guest Gritty!

The Flyers PowerPlay team have been providing an athletic and social opportunity for people with disabilities since 2003. The Flyers PowerPlay tournament team won the US Powerhockey championship in 2013, the Powerhockey Cup in 2018, and the Canada Cup in 2019, which saw them face the best Powerhockey teams in North America.

Students in powerchairs play with adapted hockey sticks, celebrate a goal.

They currently play games twice a month on Saturdays September through June at Neumann University in Aston, PA and Norristown PAL in Norristown, PA.
