Testimonials

I’ve never been to another school like it. The level of respect, the kindness, the acceptance. Everyone is here for the same reason: to see your child happy and succeed. They see Sabina’s ability rather than the disability.

HMS School is the best! I have never seen a school so caring, organized and loving. They have helped my daughter and I in many ways. The parent meetings are very informative. They do so much and keep you up to date with the latest technologies out there. HMS is a school that is like a family and I love and appreciate each one of the faculty and staff.

My son has attended HMS for the past two years. You couldn’t ask for a better school or more caring staff. The improvements he has made are incredible. He has acquired the skills to use his own communication device and drive a power wheelchair. HMS has given him the confidence and self-esteem that he needed to become a more independent child. Thanks HMS for everything you do for him, and all the other children there. Keep up the great work.

HMS is an incredibly great fit for our daughter, Helena. There is no other school that is so focused on up-to-date therapy and connecting students to technology. They also offered the team approach we needed to maximize Helena’s potential—therapists, nurses and educators all working together. We also feel that they know our daughter as well as we do, and I feel very comfortable, knowing that they are as interested in her well-being as we are.

The best place on earth. Ashley loves it here! We call the staff and students family.

HMS gave my daughter everything she needs to face her challenges in the adult world and she’s thriving. They fostered the understanding that she wasn’t just a child with CP, but a funny, sassy, headstrong and kind child named Grace – who happened to have CP.

One of the most incredible places for CP kids! My son is a graduate and goes back for alumni days. And the school prom and see old friends and teachers/staff. Music, art with Eiko, and dance rounds out a full day for any student and my son misses every minute of it!

I love HMS School because it is the first place that ever looked at my daughter and gave her a chance. They are finding ways to help her communicate her needs and wants, and giving her beautiful life validation, meaning and purpose. It has been a dream come true. The staff there is the most caring and talented group of individuals I have ever met, and their expertise is making a difference to these children that is priceless.

The home-school communication is far superior to any that we have experienced in any other school. They push these kids, not letting them slack off and encourage them to attain their greatest potential. They care for the kids as if they were their own. I have full trust in them. They have not disappointed me in five years. I am so fortunate that my daughter is able to attend HMS.

From day one, the amazing staff at HMS School has seen the potential in our daughter that we as her parents, always knew was there. With their expertise, resources, and passion, the staff pushes her daily to be her best self and we could not be more thankful!

HMS has a staff of passionate people who are committed to making the lives of children with cerebral palsy the best that they can be. We are fortunate that our home school district understands the benefits of sending our son to HMS. I don’t know a school that can hold a candle to the services provided by HMS.

My son is a fifteen-year-old who lives with CP. He has been to many schools, but HMS has moved him into a whole new world of communication and he has made dramatic strides in all areas of life in just three years. The staff is exceptional and the caring, and the teaching can’t be compared for this type of disability.

At HMS, our daughter began to advocate for herself, learned life skills, traveled on public transportation, went to concerts and read books…all while building her self-esteem and happiness. The compassion and love of the HMS staff will always remain with Haley and our family.

Most people have no conception of what the gift of communication is really worth. But when your teenage child is able to tell you he loves you for the first time, you realize it is priceless.

The focus on communication has opened up a new level of awareness and curiosity in my daughter. The staff encourages her to find creative ways to express herself, which has unlocked her potential in all areas of her life.

When I worked at HMS, I loved to watch students thrive and develop their potential. One board member said it best when he referred to HMS as the ‘Rolls Royce of CP education,’ and I agree.

Accessible arts are a constant drumbeat in the daily life of your facility and one of the things that makes HMS magical.

The children at HMS are at home at this school. Instead of one child having a wheelchair, all of the children have wheelchairs. The staff adapt activities, learning experiences and activities of daily living to the child’s particular needs so that they are able to interact in a variety of situations instead of sitting on the sidelines. Each year, the school makes more and more changes and improvements to benefit the students. Our son is accepted in this environment and has built a social network that would not have been possible at his home school.

We searched for a long time before finding HMS. They have so many more services for our son than any other school of this type. Examples: Parent Teacher Night—They keep the entire school staff after school so that both parents can attend and do not have to find caretakers (which can be difficult for special needs children). They also provide boxed dinners on these nights to help parents with their busy schedules. Second, their special doctors visit the children at school so that parents do not have to take time off for routine eye care and dental visits. Third, when our son was learning to use an assistive communication device at his previous school, we had to order a loaner from the state. After working with it for a few months, it had to be returned. At our HMS interview, they provided a loaner and showed us how to program it right then and there. He has been using it steadily for the past few years and is still learning. GREAT SCHOOL!
